<h1 style="text-align: center;">Has God ever spoken to you?</h1>
There is nothing more precious than hearing the voice of our Lord. Hearing His voice when we have been seeking him with all our heart.
There have been many times in my life when I have been seeking god, often desperately. We have all been there wanting more than anything to understand, to know His will, or even pleading for relief from the sadness.
Then we hear Him.
That still small voice that brings us comfort, assurance, and confidence in our faith. Sometimes we hear from God when we are reading the Bible, singing praises during a service or just praying. But we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God has answered our pleas.
Sometimes it is just what we wanted; sometimes it’s not the answer we want.
Either way it is an answer from God. We now have an assurance that we heard God. We now know what He has for us. We have a peace; maybe even feel it was a mountain top experience.
But life goes on.
The feeling doesn’t last. Life is busy; it is filled with good times and bad. We continue to pray, serve, and worship the Lord but often we find ourselves in a place where we need a word from Him again.
We are struggling and desperate to know He is here with us. Has a plan for us….again
I often create a memorial or mementos to celebrate and remember these special moments for a life time. They remind me of the times God has given me deep truths to hold on to. Reminding me I can trust Him.
Jacob and his dreams of God’s blessing on him.
The Old Testament recounts many different times when God’s people build tabernacles in memory of something God had done from them. Genesis tells us the story of Jacob laying down to rest; he lays his head on stone and falls asleep. The Lord visits him and tells him of the plans and blessings He has for Jacob and his descendants. When Jacob awakes he makes a vow.
Jacob uses the stone to make a pillar for God’s House.
Jacob awakes from an encounter with God and immediately praises Him. He then uses the rock he laid his head on to build a pillar to create God’s House. This pillar will ever remind him of His time with God and the promises God gave him.
Mementos of my experiences with God include: framed verses, statues, or my paintings.
How might you create something which will remind you of God’s promises What could you buy or create to remind you of times when God has answered your prayers in a special way?
Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father’s household, then the Lord will be my God and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.”
Gen 28:20-22(NIV)
“There is nothing more precious than hearing the voice of our Lord.” – so very true Rayna. And yes, we need to hear it again and again. My memorial stones are my journals. And I also paste pictures of the ways He speaks to me through nature and events. Love Him so.
Hi Rayna and Kinsey, love reading about the memorial stones! I am the say way Kinsey with my journals. I also have one that is literally just “blooming” now after many, many years of thinking that it was not existent.
When we finished the first essentials class, the instructors encouraged us to have a memorial of remembering what God did through that time. We had an area of our yard that I wanted to cover a site that we didn’t want to see. I didn’t want to use a fence. At that time in my life, I had a “green thumb” and tried planting things in that spot as a “memorial”. NOTHING would ever, ever Grow!! It was non-existent. We just could see the site we didn’t want to see.
Then, a few months ago, “out of the blue”, I saw a very small bloom and a shoot of something growing in that spot. It was at the very time that business momentum was just starting to pick up after many years of what seemed to be “non-existent” like the lack of the plant growth.
The plant that did shoot up should never have survived some harsh weather and it decided to come forward many, many years later! I sensed that God was sharing with me, just watch it grow and watch for those blossoms.
Well, business momentum began at a time of year that made no sense other than only God could do that. I am tying this just after looking at a very large bush covered with so many blossoms, just at the same time as really, really enjoying the “fruit” of getting to work with the people that God has in my life right now. Pretty unreal.
That is so awesome Mary Lou! I am not sure why we continue to be amazed at our Lord’s graciousness to us but it still blows my mind how He blesses us even in the smallest details! Praises to Him who all blessing flow! Rayna
Hi Rayna, I agree. I think concrete reminders of God’s whispers are invaluable. I have them in my journals, as pictures on the walls, and small mementos. Each one is precious.
